Ron Paul Inc. Campaigning Family Business

paul-family *** This is an ongoing research project. After reaching the $1.5 million mark of campaigning money filtered off to the Paul family, I felt this was enough to publish the work and add to it as I continue on. Some might think researching this is easy, but with the amount of PAC (Political Action Committees), general campaign entities and other corporate organizations – there is a lot to go through.

In my opinion Ron Paul is one of the most successful politicians at turning the act of politics into full time, well paid jobs for his family members. Using separate entities (corporate entities), donations are used to pay salaries of family members, distributed to other network entities that Paul owns that again pay salaries of family members again and again. The man that champions the free markets and the private sector has created a new market in the economy: the election market.

What I’m presenting to you today is fully verifiable and available to the public. Election laws state that this information must be disclosed to the public. I will personally source all information to help prove the case, but you can easily validate this information yourself at the FEC.gov (Federal Election Commission).

Due to the vast amount of detail that went into documenting this I’m providing two versions of this information. Below is our webpage version that is reader friendly and hopefully easy to follow. Second is a spreadsheet document that breaks things out with more details. Both version will be sourced with proof to back up the quantities.

Help Us

Currently looking for more political organizations similar to the Campaign for Liberty that Paul has created. Also looking for the Campaign for Liberty 2009 Form 990 that isn’t missing the page which contains the disclosure of salaries. The one I have now is missing it.

Additional Information

  • There is extensive missing information related to the 2012 Presidential run as the FEC has not databased the information for easy capture. Most of this information is contained in a single 17000 page PDF scan and will take time to extract.
  • Older data is harder to come by as records aren’t required to be held that long.
  • Campaigns, committees and PACs are regulated by the FEC and are required to disclose everything. Non-profit “educational” foundations such as Campaign for Liberty don’t have to disclose much of the same information. For example, in 2010, Campaign for Liberty paid out over $900,000 in salaries, yet they only disclosed the salaries of 5 people, (2 of which earned $0) and only totaling around $250k. I’m unable to track down who received the remaining $650k in salaries.

Raw Campaign Expenses

I really like OpenSecrets, but a problem is that they only show the top 10 expense payouts to people/business by name. This was fine when the Paul campaign had more humble expenses, but in the later years you couldn’t see anything below $300k. Completely useless. So I broke down the data in a summed by expense name.

Campaign to Re-Elect Ron Paul

Update Log:

  • Dec 30 2014: Added raw campaign expenses.
  • Dec 17 2014: Found 2009 Campaign for Liberty IRS Form 990 without missing pages. Suspiciously, over $800,000 in salaries paid out with no declaration of the top earners (as required by law).
